The mission of Jounce Afterschool Programs is to put a positive jolt in our community by engaging youth in community building, recreation, and enrichment during out-of-school time.

JOUNCE Middle School

Jounce Middle is a free middle school after school program housed at FUMC Waynesville. Open from 3-5pm everyday after school, students enjoy socializing, playing games, doing homework, and going on field trips.

  • Free after school programming for middle school children in 6-8 grades.

  • Open everyday Haywood County Schools are open.

  • Students hangout, play games, do homework and enjoy time together.

  • Fun extra trips and activities include:

    • Art Classes

    • Fly Fishing

    • Hiking

    • Bike Riding

    • Wiffle Ball

    • Volunteering at Haywood Christian Ministries

JOUNCE+

Jounce+ is based on a focused STEAM curriculum. Jounce+ is designed for students to be learning and doing - it is all hands on and fun and never like more school work!

Jounce Plus is open everyday after school from 3-5pm. Jounce Plus follows Haywood County Schools Schedule and is not open on early dismissals.

  • Curriculum: S.T.E.A.M. Curriculum: (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) | Using curriculum provided by LEGO, NASA and more, students will be engaged through hands-on activities that relate to a wide array of interests and careers. On a regular basis, guest teachers are brought in from a variety of careers to show how the skills learned apply to their work.

  • Volunteer: Jounce+ will volunteer with local non-profits such as Haywood Christian Ministries, Pathways, Music Makers and more! We believe that each student and family is better when connected to their local communities and giving back.

  • Recreation: Jounce+ will have frequent field trips for local recreational opportunities. Our rec opportunities include swimming, paddleboarding, biking, hockey, fly fishing, and more.

JOUNCE High

Jounce High is a free high school afterschool program which offers practical and educational programming. Students participating will walk away with job, college, and life skills, preparing them for the next step in their young adulthood.

Jounce High meets Monday-Friday from 3-5pm at the Willow Building at Haywood Community College (HCC) or at FUMC Waynesville.

Weekly Schedule
  • Monday: Sustainable Development (HCC Willow Building) Hands-on science education with a focus on sustainable resource management. Students will explore creative repurposing of waste into valuable products, covering recycling to composting and everything in-between.

  • Tuesday: Repair Shop (HCC Willow Building) Students will gain firsthand experience repairing a variety of household items, ranging from small appliances and lamps, to furniture, bicycles, small engines and more.
    Following monthly educational sessions led by area experts, students will participate in hands-on repair sessions of actual broken items for the local community.

  • Wednesday: Cooking (FUMC Waynesville Kitchen) Students will participate in small-group cooking sessions, with a unique focus on Spanish-language immersion while creating healthy meals with fresh ingredients.

  • Thursday: Greenhouse (HCC Willow Building) Led by a retired HCC expert horticulturist, students will participate in all steps of cultivating nursery plants. From seed selection to sale, students will learn what it takes to care for a wide range of nursery plants.

  • Friday: Entrepreneurship Day (FUMC Waynesville) A collaborative workspace,where we learn different vocations in our community and where we assemble our recorded media and publish what we have done. This day will have field trips, projects, and media posts.
