An Exciting Time: Fall Ministry Kick-off!

By Rev. Becky Brown | 2022-09-09 | 3 min read

With overwhelming gratitude, we celebrate the start to the Fall ministry season here at FUMC! Last year, we had high hopes for a breath of fresh air and a return to “normal” (whatever that is..), only to have our plans scratched due to another surge in COVID. Even though this virus is still among us, and is something we continue to monitor, we feel we are able to bring back vital ministries in person, and that feels amazing.

Our Middle School afterschool program is in full swing, with recreational field trips every Wednesday afternoon and an average of 50 students participating each day. Our children’s Sunday School classes have transitioned into a new school year with the 56 club featuring our 5th and 6th grade students. Our confirmation class of 7th graders will meet for their first class on September 11. Youth Sunday School with 8th-12th graders is off to a great start with excellent leadership. New acolytes will be trained on September 18 and 25, and will serve in both the 9am and 11am worship services. Regular Youth will start back soon on Sunday nights, and the Clean and Green Club for children will meet on Sunday evening as well. Wonderful Wednesday Reconnect Meals will happen on September 14 and 21 with catering by Kaninis and wonderful table talk with children, youth and adults all sharing together. If you’re looking for a way to connect with members you haven’t seen in a while, or new faces you have seen, but don’t know yet, this is a GREAT opportunity to do so. Music Makers is coming back this year, and has 79 children registered for the program! We begin picking children up from their schools on September 28, and we can’t wait to have them all in the building learning and growing through music. Wonderful Wednesday classes are starting the same day, and we have an excellent selection of classes for deeper learning and soul tending – sign up today! Our children on Wednesdays will be able to just enjoy being children while playing on the playground and enjoying fellowship together while the adults enjoy classes. Music Lab for youth returns on Wednesday nights, and youth can’t wait to get together again to play music and sharpen their skills on their instruments. We are partnering with Grace Episcopal for youth ministry on Wednesdays, and Rev. Joslyn will be leading a Bible Study for those who aren’t participating in Music Lab. I could go on and on about all the ministry that is kicking off this Fall, but by the time I finish writing this, our lawn will be painted orange with pumpkins.

All this is to say, we are always and increasingly grateful to be the church with each of you. It is great to sense the energy and the momentum this Fall brings. We give thanks to God, and are listening for God’s voice through it all. May God continue to draw us closer to one another, provoke us to remember to welcome ALL, deepen our faith and knowledge of God and God’s word, and fling us out of the doors of our church building to proclaim the Good News of the Gospel.
