About this event
Sojourners Sponsor Dinner and Night at the Movies in November
Bring yourself, bring your spouse, bring your date! Come and join the Sojourners in the Faith classroom at the church for a night of dinner and a movie on Monday, November 18. The evening will start off at 6:00PM with fellowship together around the table as we share in a chicken and pulled pork meal catered by Publix. The movie, Saving Grace, will begin at 7:00 PM. Read on to find out more about the movie!
Saving Grace is a 1986 comedy-drama based on a novel by Celia Gittelson. A year after his election, a youthful pope (Conti) longs to be involved in ordinary people's lives again, as he was when he was a priest. During an audience, the Pope communicates with a young deaf-mute girl whose village has no priest. Accidentally locked out of the Vatican, the Pope travels to the small impoverished and demoralized village, his identity concealed by his beard growth. He realizes that the people need to rebuild a dilapidated aqueduct but, more importantly, that they must regain their community spirit and self-sufficiency. Without expertise and, initially, only with the help of some streetwise orphans, he starts construction. All this is watched skeptically by a mysterious neighbor and opposed by local thugs led by Ciolino (Olmos) whose ill-gotten gains depend on the village remaining overly dependent on outsiders.
It is a story of faith, hope, love and God’s restorative powers that can happen in the hearts and minds of people.
The cost of the evening is $11.00/person which pays for the cost of the meal.
Come and enjoy this time of fun, food and fellowship together! Please note that a concession stand will be available during the movie for those of you who must have munchies to complete your movie experience!
