FREE & Open to the public
Haywood Choral Society, directed by Don Kirkindoll, will perform its spring concert, “Cry Out for Peace” on Sunday April 28th, 4:00 PM at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville. Accompanying the 68member group will be chorus pianist Hilda Ryan, FUMC organist Rhonda Furr, and guest saxophonist Clifford Leaman.
This season’s concert features songs that call for peace, an end to social injustice, and a reminder for us to remember those who have lost their lives in the Civil Rights Movement. Works included will be James Whitbourn’s Son of God Mass, Kyle Pederson’s arrangement of Soon We Will Be Done, Dan Forrest’s Abide, based on a poem by Jake Adam York, and gospel original Praise His Holy Name by Keith Hampton. Additional musical works evoke feelings of thankfulness, hope, and charity. Guest saxophonist Clifford Leaman has served as a professor of saxophone at the University of South Carolina since 2000. He is in great demand as a soloist and has performed concerts and taught master classes in saxophone worldwide.
Director Don Kirkindoll has conducted the Haywood Choral Society since spring of 2023 and serves as the Director of Music and Worship Arts at First United Methodist Church in Waynesville. Haywood Choral Society was founded in 1997 by The Junaluskans, with the goal to preserve and present the classical works of the past and present. The chorus performs classical, contemporary, spiritual, folk, and gospel, genres of music. HCS reminds us of the vast talent we are fortunate to have in our corner of western North Carolina. This will be a “Don’t miss it concert!” For more info, visit www.haywoodchoralsociety.org and follow us on Facebook.
